LESS IS MORE
MORE IS LESS
Based on wikipedia definition:
"Minimalism describes movements in various forms of art and design, especially visual art and music, where the work is set out to expose the essence, essentials or identity of a subject through eliminating all non-essential forms, features or concepts."
Okay basically, based on the wikipedia definition, we can understand that Less Is More or More Is Less is actually can be symbolised by minimalism. People using this minimalism in the architecture for simplicity where it better than the complexity. Minimalism usually being apply to any design by reducing other elements to it's necessary elements only. This minimalism actually being influenced by the Japan traditional design and architecture.
"arranging the numerous necessary components of a building to create an impression of extreme simplicity, by enlisting every element and detail to serve multiple visual and functional purposes (such as designing a floor to also serve as the radiator, or a massive fireplace to also house the bathroom)."

From that quoted statement, it cleared that the minimalism is focusing only on the necessary elements or components in designing of a architecture. Those necessary elements are used and combined to create a better and simple design but yet resulted in extreme simplicity due to the detailed composition of basic elements arranged.
Above is the example of minimalism design where we can clearly see the designer only use simple shape such as line to create a closet but by using minimalism it became more extreme simplicity and dramatic design.
